Dáil na nÓg: Children and young people from all over the country to speak out and demand change!

- 15 November 2003 -

On Saturday 15 November 2003 at Croke Park, Dublin, from 10.30am – 4.00pm, 190 delegates (aged 12 – 18) will attend Dáil na nÓg, 163 of whom were elected through their local Comhairlí na nÓg, co-ordinated by County/City Development Boards. 37 delegates came through a Comhairle na nÓg organised to ensure the inclusion of hard to reach groups of young people.

The themes selected by delegates, from the 10 special initiatives in Sustaining Progress, for discussion at the Dáil are:

Drug and Alcohol Abuse
Educational Disadvantage

During the plenary session, delegates will put forward key concerns and recommendations arising from workshop discussions, to the Minister for Children, Brian Lenihan TD.

Recommendations and outcomes will be followed up and negotiated by young delegates themselves, through the social partnership process.

Dáil na nÓg 2003 is being managed and run by the National Youth Council of Ireland on behalf of the National Children’s Office.
