What is the Dáil na nÓg Council?
It is important to remember that Dáil na nÓg is not just for one day!
The young people who attend the national Dáil na nÓg event discuss and vote on themes which are important to young people around Ireland. But the work doesn't stop there.
After Dáil na nÓg, each of the 34 Comhairle na nÓg (local youth councils) elect one person to represent them on the Dáil na nÓg Council. During their term of office the Council works to implement some of the changes that young people called for at Dáil na nÓg.
The role of the Dáil na nÓg Council is to:
• identify areas of work from the key issues identified at Dáil na nÓg;
• conduct research into the issues identified;
• meet with relevant Ministers, TDs, government officials, policy makers and other stakeholders to seek their support in making changes for young people on the issues identified;
• promote Dáil na nÓg locally through Comhairle na nÓg;
• communicate the activities of the Council to local Comhairles and inform the other members of the Council about the work of their Comhairle; and
• represent Dáil na nÓg at conferences and other events.

All members of the Council have an equal role. The Councillors research and discuss the themes they're working on and undertakes training in areas such as research and presentation skills when necessary.
Four Senior Council Members (from the previous DNN Council) give support and advice to Council members when necessary and undertake any follow up work related to the themes they worked on during their term of office.
The work of the DNN Council has been recognised as a vital part of the follow-up process to Dáil na nÓg by the previous Minister for Health and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, as well as other important decision-makers.

Members of the 2009 - 2010 Dáil na nÓg Council meeting the then Minster for Health and Children, Mary Harney T.D. and the then Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Barry Andrews T.D. in January 2010.
